The
Auburn Memorial Library offers programs at various times throughout
the year for all children through the 5th grade. Watch the local
paper and look for flyers with exact dates and times of the various
programs.
Pre-School
Storytime This storytime is designed for
children ages 3-5 years old to participate independently with children
their own age. There is one session in the fall (usually
starting in Sept.) and one in the winter (usually starting in Feb.).
During the 20-30 minute period, we read a book or two, enjoy a craft
and play simple games. We also talk about what is important in
their lives at that time and rarely manage to stay focused on one
subject!
Toddler Time
This storytime is designed for children under 36 months. We read
a short story and while the older ones in the group are enjoying a
simple craft, the younger ones are working with puzzles, building with
blocks, and other fun activities. The older ones then join in to
finish out the 20 minute session. We do ask that a
parent/guardian join us for each toddler time.
Summer Reading
Just when teachers are sighing with relief that school is over, the
library staff is gearing up for their busiest, most intensive time.
A lot of effort is put into our program with the hope that we can keep
the kids turned on to reading during the summer months so they go back
to school reading as well as when the doors closed for the summer.
Our summer reading program is for children age 3 - 5th grade. We
bring in a lot of special guests and also have activities.
For each book that a child reads during the program (or is read to),
the child receives a library dollar (youth fiction books are worth
more). At the end of the program we have a store where the
children can spend their dollars. We have found this works very
well as each child can set his/her own goal.
Special Programs
Activities are offered periodically throughout the year for all ages.
There are programs and activities for special holidays and events,
such as Children's Book Week and National Library Week. Santa
has also been known to visit with his elf in December.
